Hybrid Broadband Networking

Technical Theory Only Stream

Course Objectives

  1. Understand the the four networking options for a house or small business. (direct cabling, Wi-Fi, MoCA and Ethernet over Power Cabling)
  2. Understand the network design and installation options using direct cabling, Wi-Fi, MoCA and Ethernet over Power Cabling.
  3. Understand the appropriate testing methods for each of the 4 networking options: direct cabling, Wi-Fi, MoCA and Ethernet over Power Cabling.
  4. Restricted customer premises broadband cabling work in homes and small business.

In plain terms we wish to teach you about the four options that may be used in a domestic or small business premises. The options should not be considered as stand alone options, in fact, you may achieve a better outcome for the customer by combining the 4 different networking styles.

Clearly you must get a physical and theoretical understanding of each networking style. With this understanding you can employ that knowledge toward a workable design. You can also apply that knowledge to test each style is working well alone and in conjunction with other styles.

In our research we have discovered some very basic and fundamental design options that alleviate common oversights that generally occur due to a lack of understanding or simply setting up devices in default modes.

  • MoCA - Multimedia over Coax Alliance, MoCA 2.0
  • Wi-Fi - Wireless Fidelity - IEEE 802.3 a,b,g,n,ac
  • HomePlug Association - Ethernet over Power Lines IEEE 1901 - Power Line Communication (PLC) - Powerline
  • Hybrid Home Alliance IEEE 1905.1 Hybrid Technology

This course has a 3 month time-frame. If after 6 months you have not completed the training your account will be made 'inactive'. If you wish to come back to it you may apply for an extension.

See our policies and fees for this process.

This course contains the theory for two Nationally Accredited competencies and contains the ACMA Restricted Broadband competency.

Additional Hybrid Broadband Networking theory was written and developed by Conquest Communications.

NOTE: If you wish to do data cabling patch panels in a Domestic or Small Business Premises the ACMA require you to hold an Open Cabler Registration and a Restricted Broadband Registration as a minimum. Alternatively an Open and Structured Cabling endorsement covers this type of installtion as well.

How we Train

Conquest Communications has developed over the years a unique online learning management system (LMS) tailored to our specific training needs. We deliver all theory through the online LMS and pair this learning with practical hands on days. This course is theory only so no hands on days required.

This system provides the flexibility to learners to log in at their own convenience to undertake their study. It minimises the time learners take away from work as study can be completed after hours which in turn maximises time spent on paid work. Each section is broken in to smaller sized subjects which means that the learners are not locked to the computer for large periods of time.
