Qualification Description

This qualification prepares an individual for entry into the telecommunications industry and its convergent technologies, including radio, optical, data and internet protocol (IP) networks.

This qualification reflects the role of an operator in the telecommunications industry who can apply a broad range of competencies using a defined range of skills where some discretion and judgement is required in the selection, installation and configuration of equipment in convergence technologies that integrate radio, optical and internet protocol (IP) based applications.

This role includes assessing installation requirements, planning and performing installations, testing installed equipment and fault finding. It involves a degree of autonomy and may include some supervision of others. Work is performed according to known routines and procedures and there is some accountability for the quality of outcomes.

The following specialisations can be achieved through selection of specific units of competency:

  • Optical Networks
  • Wireless Networks
  • Cabling Networks
  • Telecommunications Networking
  • Radio Communications.

Conquest Communications is offering a Certificate III in Telecommunications with Systems specialisation.

Cabling at the customer premises must be carried out according to requirements of the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) and relevant industry registration bodies, and in line with the specifications of the access network owner. Refer to "Pathways to ACMA Cabling Provider Rules - Cabling registration" and the mandatory industry practical hours required for registration.

Entry Requirements - Nil

ACMA regulatory requirements - by the end of the study period learners must be able to demonstrate field experience hours. Further information down the page.

Our assessors are experienced in applying recognition of prior learning (RPL), so if a learner is trade qualified (even in a different field), an experienced cabler, or has completed other similar nationally recognised training, then in most cases RPL or Credit Transfers can be applied with the submission of supporting evidence. Click here to view our RPL process

In addition to completion of relevant competency requirements, candidates must demonstrate on-the-job cabling experience when applying for their Open Registration with an ACMA Registrar. Click here to view the field experience declaration form

Further Information regarding these requirements can be found at http://www.acma.gov.au/Industry or the ACMA registrar of your choice.

How we Train

Conquest Communications has developed over the years a unique online learning management system (LMS) tailored to our specific training needs. We deliver all theory through the online LMS and pair this learning with practical hands on days.

This system provides the flexibility to learners to log in at their own convenience to undertake their study. It minimises the time learners take away from work as study can be completed after hours which in turn maximises time spent on paid work. Each unit of competency is broken in to smaller sized subjects which means that the learners are not locked to the computer for large periods of time. Assignments can be uploaded directly to their profile for marking by our industry experienced trainers and assessors.

Below is a table outlining the hourly breakdown of the different delivery methods for this course. Please be advised that this is a guide only and that a learners experience level, Recognition of Prior Learning applications, personal/work commitments etc. will impact on the length required to complete this training.

Training and Assessment

  • Delivery Modes – The units of Competency are delivered using a mixture of Classroom, Electronic and Employment based modes.
  • Online Study – The majority of the underpinning knowledge is taught through online learning. This online learning is undertaken at the trainees own pace. They can proceed through this as quickly or slowly as they wish. Hands on days to teach and assess the practical skills required will be scheduled/undertaken only once the required online learning has been successfully completed.
  • Hands on Training Sessions - At the completion of the online theory students can book in to relevant hands on training sessions. Not all units of competency have a hands on training session.

Assessment Methods

Q

Questions (tests, interviews, case studies, questionnaires, self-assessments, etc.)

WO

Workplace Observation (observed whilst doing job, set tasks, role play, scenarios or simulations)

RP

Review of Products (samples of work, products, etc.)

P

Portfolios demonstrating experience (workplace documents, journal/log books, etc.)

TPF

Third Party Feedback (testimonials, supervisor reports/interviews, etc.)

SA

Structured Activities (presentations, activity sheets, off-the-job role play, scenarios or simulations, etc.)

Equipment and Tools

This training leads to trade level qualifications. Thus a good tradesman must own the appropriate test equipment to perform competently as a trade qualified person. We also appreciate that the more expensive items are often simply hired as needed by you or your company.

We supply all of the required tools and equipment for learners at their hands on training days.

Learners must complete all assignments and purchase the necessary kits and test equipment needed.

Units that have additional costs;

ICTTEN208 Use electrical skills when working with telecommunications networks - electronic kit required approx. <$40 per kit. The kit can be shared amongst learners.

ICTWHS204 Follow work health and safety and environmental policy and procedures – While not a mandatory requirement to gaining competency for this unit it is our strong recommendation that learners hold and submit a current First Aid Certificate with CPR and Construction White Card.

Working in the telecommunications industry means working within potentially dangerous workplace environments and often working within construction sites. In general you will be working with other people who may suffer an accident

It is also the Law that you possess a Building Construction Induction card to work on construction sites.

Fees

Total course = $4395.00

Company paying for course = full fee upfront or upon negotiation a payment plan can be arranged.

The order that each unit of competency is activated has been designed with prerequisites, regulatory requirements in mind as well as a need for the learner to build on their knowledge and skills as they progress, preparing them for the more complex units.

Additional Fees – see Tools for any units that have additional fees.

Training Locations

We’re a Nationally Recognised Training Organisation and can train all over Australia. All our training gear is transportable increasing our ability to train in many places other companies can't go. We have experienced and qualified Trainers who travel across Queensland each year conducting our training and full time trainers in Brisbane and Bundaberg. We also have Trainers in other states.

For Training outside of the above mentioned locations and in other states please call us first and we’ll let you know where the closest trainer is to you and how quickly we might be able to line up the schedule to meet your training needs. If you sign up 5 or more learners we can travel to you and deliver the hands on training in your own workshop. For an additional fee, we can also attend your workplace to deliver training if you do not have the 5 or more learners. These training days at your workplace can include the weekend to minimise the loss of your normal weekday working hours.  Alternatively if you are registering as an individual, or your company has less than these numbers, we schedule courses in the major towns throughout the year, and your learners can attend these sessions.

Due to the unpredictable nature of regional training, Regional learners purchasing Conquest training must be aware that our guarantee to deliver the training as close to them as possible is only valid for the first year of their enrollment. If after 1 year they have not finished their training (hands on component) we reserve the right to request that they travel to our nearest training location at their expense. We would not ask this lightly and it would only occur if the Trainer in the learner’s location is unable to complete the training due to health, personal/professional issues or they are no longer working for Conquest Communications. Where possible prior notice to learners would be provided.

Inexperienced Cablers – depending on the course delete points as required.

  • Inexperienced cablers may need to attend additional face to face hands on training and be asked to gain field experience to build on our learning before competency is approved. See the course breakdown for the hours required.
  • Inexperienced cablers may need additional face to face hands on training (e.g. Hand and Power Tools) or
  • Inexperienced cablers must gain the necessary experience in the field with their Employer to meet the ‘Field Experience Declaration’ as required by the ACMA and
  • Inexperienced cablers will still need to complete training with CCC Trainers as outlined above.
